CORBA and the Java Card – Connecting Small Devices to a Standard Event Service

چکیده
Application development for tiny, intelligent devices has to deal with considerable hardware limitations, especially with regard to storage capacity and communication facilities. Furthermore, most devices offer only very limited low-level programming interfaces, complicating the integration of small devices into large-scale architectures. This paper shows an efficient software mechanism for connecting small devices to existing standard event and notification services. We show how the approach simplifies the communication with small devices and describe how security aspects are integrated.

Interconnection of Distributed Components:
From design and manufacturing to electronic commerce, coordinating business activities in engineering applications requires accessing data and software from distributed sources. The Common Object Request Broker Architecture (CORBA) of the Object Management Group emerged in the 1990’s as a standard for access to distributed software components. Since that time, the standard has matured significa...

This paper begins with consideration on push technology in a Java ORB environment, and investigates interoperability of event channels of the event service of CORBA, which should be technically addressed to build a true push service in a Java ORB environment. We present three different methods that enable one event channel to be connected with other event channels. The pros and cons of each m...

Connecting other devices than workstations to the Internet is becoming commonplace now. In this article we investigate two approaches to the discovery of devices and the services they may provide, viz., the Universal Plug ’n Play standard by Microsoft and the wireless Corba model.
متن کاملA Platform for the Study of Reliable Multicasting Extensions to CORBA Event Service
Conference applications play a key role in workgroup tools, and provide an excellent environment for the development and evaluation of proposals concerning multicasting and reliable communications. A nuclear aspect of conference applications is their ability to use multipoint communication in heterogeneous environments. In the scope this work, a platform that uses several extensions to the CORB...

Over the past several years, the World Wide Web has emerged from a research project to an environment for open, commercial services, such as online-banking, travel reservation, and stock-trading. However, in contrast to the best-effort approach pro vided by the Web, many of those services demand higher predictability and qualityof-service properties such as security, end-to-end availability, de...
